Membership Events
Some of the many benefits of the Partner of the Parks program for steward-level members and above include invitations to exclusive tours at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site. Our first Member-only Tour has been scheduled:
October 25 at 12 noon-Landscape Design Walking Tour on the Gateway Arch Grounds with Dr. Robert Moore, Historian, National Park Service Park historian, Bob Moore will give a special walking tour detailing the history of the Gateway Arch's unique modernist landscape.
Designed by two masters of the modern idiom, architect Eero Saarinen and landscape architect Dan Kiley, the Arch grounds are the result of a spectacular collaboration and rank as a work of art. The Arch landscape is part of the National Historic Landmark designation for the site.
Steward-level members and above are invited to join us for an hour-long tour and walk of approximately one mile as we discuss what makes the Arch landscape unique. Dr. Moore will present some of his insights regarding the design gained from personal interviews with Dan Kiley and Eero Saarinen's daughter Susan. Bring comfortable walking shoes and an umbrella if rain is predicted. This is a beautiful time of year to visit the Arch grounds. We hope that you can join us for this very special insight into a little-known aspect of the memorial's design!
Also taking place on the same day is the Anniversary Celebration for the completion of the construction of the Gateway Arch. Members may attend the public event before 12 noon and have the opportunity to meet some of the men who built the Arch between 1963 and 1965. Additionally, members joining us for the tour are invited to a private lunch with the builders of the Gateway Arch at 1:30 at Soulard's Restaurant.
The Anniversary Celebration is a public event between 9 am and 12:30 pm. The members-only tour will begin at the north leg of the Arch at 12 noon. Both the public event and members-only tour are free.
The Private Lunch with the Builders of the Gateway Arch at Soulard's will begin at 1:30 and is $18 per person. Soulard's Restaurant is just 2 minutes from downtown, located at 1731 South 7th Street.
